How I Believe In Me began. . . . .

When my son, Matthew, turned one year old, I began looking for a book for him to teach him of his inner greatness and the power within him to achieve his highest potential. I began to feel the book I was looking for had not yet been created. I worked all that summer illustrating affirmations and collected them into a book for Matt with drawings that would appeal to a very young child. I was guided to send my manuscript to a pubilsher and 14 months later my manuscript was approved and published! I have since retired from my career as a court reporter and devote full-time to illustrating positive books for children.—Connie Bowen

"I am safe"

This drawing and affirmation came about one morning when I was getting ready for work. I looked down at my infant son sleeping peacefully and felt sad that I would be taking him to daycare for a few hours. I announced to myself "I wish I could put you in a bubble of love!"

"I am one with all life"

I included this drawing and affirmation in the book because I feel we're all a part of Nature. This affirmation can be the beginning of a discussion with children about the importance of cherishing the animal kingdom and our environment.

"I am loving"

Every child needs to understand their true nature is one of loving kindness. I was up very late working on this drawing into the wee hours of the morning. I had wanted to put drapes around the top of the illustration and started to carefully draw them in. I was so tired, I ended up just putting shapes instead and coloring them in with bright colors! The overall effect turned out to be very interesting ~ someone was definitely watching over me in the creation of this book!

There is a page that says, 'I'm whole and perfect just the way I am.' Well I don't always feel perfect. But when you read the words and look at the pictures, you do feel ppretty good. One reason is because the picture is a kid looking in a mirror at himself. The mirror is held by his guardian angel. How can you feel bad when your guardian angel is caring about you?

Some of the pages I don't always understand. My grandma makes me talk it through with her. Like the page of 'I am Powerful.' It shows a huge animal with horns and a kid on top of the animal. Well how can you feel powerful with a scary animal around and you are just a kid. I felt better after I talked it through. I'm bigger than my brother and sister and I protect them. I pay attention in school most of the time which makes me smarter each day.

See it really is a different book - and a good one. There is a different way to read it too. My grandma says to just read one page and then let yourself think about what it means. About Connie Bowen

I began drawing at an early age and majored in art at Washington State University. I then completed training and worked for 23 years as a freelance court reporter.

Since retiring from court reporting in 1997, I have devoted full time to the loves of my life: my dear family, my art and the expression of Truth.

The creative process for me involves meditation and —connecting with my higher guidance. I can feel which direction my next project will take. I don't pursue a direction unless it feels fun and exciting to me to work on. If I start something and then I feel an urge to let it go and work on something else, I'll put it away and consider it finished for now. This works out really well for me. I follow my guidance and stay in tune with myself. It's true for me that I'm only —guided one step at a time and by staying in tune with myself, I stay in tune with the Divine.

In the words of my higher guidance, "All days are meant for joy and laughter. Follow your creative whims - they lead you not astray - for as you follow, you will be led - to still more of the truest bounty - the richest being Love."
